Quilt Square

Created in honor of Sean Loughran

At the center of the quilt square is the beautiful child who was the center of my universe. My family and I lost the glue that held us together. But for me in particular, I lost my son and best friend. When his father passed away, Sean became the man of the family at age 13. The void his passing has left can only be understood when you realize how much we meant to and depended upon each other. Sometimes, I would get a late night text from him which simply said, “I love you, Mom.”

But knowing the man he was, it has meant so much to me to be able to carry out his wishes to be an organ donor. I know he is smiling and feeling proud that his death could help others.

As I write this, it is Super Bowl Sunday, a day we would have certainly spent together. Sometimes it is hard to keep going knowing all that he and I are missing, but I thank God every day for giving me my beautiful boy, the joy of my life. I’m not sure why God needed him when he was only 42 and had so much life to live, but I know that one day we will meet again and I will be able to wrap my arms around him and hold him forever.

I thank HonorBridge for all their support and my wonderful friend, Marilyn Taggart, who created this beautiful quilt square for my son, Sean.
